Brushing Habits That Do More Harm Than Good

Posted .

Did you know there are brushing habits that can harm—not help—your smile? Unfortunately, that is true. Our dentists, encourage you to avoid those habits as much as possible so you can have the top-notch brushing routine you need for a top-notch oral health and smile. To help you do so, we are happy to list the bad brushing habits here:

-Brushing with a hard-bristled toothbrush: The hard bristles can wear down the tooth enamel and irritate the gums. If you use this type of brush, it can weaken the smile and make the gums recede.

-Brushing too hard: This can also weaken the tooth enamel and bug the gums. It’s important to only use light to moderate pressure when brushing. You don’t need to brush hard to remove all of the harmful substances from your smile.

-Brushing too long: You don’t need to brush longer than two minutes each time. Brushing longer than that can have the same consequences mentioned before. So, make sure to set a timer while you brush.
